Two different marks apply to a tail light. CE marking covers the applicable European product requirements, while ECE type approval - the E-mark - is the vehicle lighting approval itself. Where a model is approved, the E-mark is moulded or printed permanently into the housing with the issuing country code, the regulation it was approved to, and the approval number. Those numbers can be verified against the published ECE regulation and test documentation is available on request. An approval cannot simply be applied to a lamp: it belongs to the product and to the manufacturer holding it.
